I bought a V reg, got the old one out- the brushes really don't look that bad, but as long as I'm this far I'll put the new one in - and now I have what is probably a dumb question.
I left the alternator on the car and just removed the belts, pushed the alternator toward the fender to expose the two screws a little more, and used needle nose vice grips to get them out. This was per the advice of some great guys who answered my post yesterday (Thank you!)
The new one comes with a metal dowel inserted beneath the two wires to hold the brushes down. If I take the dowel out first, how do I hold the brushes down so they slip past the armature and into place?
Or am I supposed to leave it place until I get the reg pack inserted and then somehow remove the pin? (doesn't seem possible to do!)
I'm working in a parking lot in the dark everyday after riding my bike home from work. I like the bicycle but if I have to do it two or three more days, I'm sure I won't like it quite as much. I just want to save a couple hundred if possible. Can anyone help?
Scott
