D the K,
Yea, wait til spring, you'll be glad you did. You'll have to crawl under the car to drive out the shift linkage pin and man is that no fun when it's cold. Wrenches and iron parts get cold and stay cold so you'll be trying to work with gloves on! You don't want to spray paint on a fridgid engine block. You don't need hardly any special tools, guys use spark plugs, blocks of wood, all kinds of stuff to block the suspension. Money-wise, How's the tranny? How many miles on the tranny and engine? Are you gonna pull them out and tidy them up and then have the pinion bearings start singing 5000 miles later? If your tranny has 150K or more then it's most likely ready for some bearings. Saab engines are remarkably durable but wait until you see your timing chain guides (if they have seen about 150K). You'll probably want to replace those and the chain, for about $90-$100. That's an example of how it sneaks up on you and adds up fast. You can have unpleasant surprises too. Say you pull the head off to install a new head gasket and you discover that the head is nice and flat, but it has cracks between the valves! Now you're looking to buy a good used or reconditioned head. I'm not trying to discourage you, just providing a bit of reality. This is what you have to be prepared for when you crack open a 20 year old car. Cheers
