There are two connections on my alt...one big one and one smaller using a female connector.

When I got my car back from some suspension work I got about 8 blocks from the shop at night and my car died. PO'd to the max but whatcha gonna do? Anyway, my wife was following me and I pushed the car around the corner and she came up in front and I hooked up the jumper cables figuring I just had a bad battery (my records show 2000 so I'm clearly pushing it...load tests ok so I'm keeping it!) and it needed a surface charge.

while I'm looking under the hood I notice the bare clip on the alternator...the wire from the alt light isn't there. The tech had evidently broken the ancient wire off while working around the left hand upper a-arm mount (had to unbolt the left motor mount and lift the engine slightly to work off the left hand upper a-arm bushings/mounts) and so the alternator wouldn't energize.

Long story but after the battery was charged up for about 10 minutes I was very careful to keep the engine rpms above 2500-3000 rpm and the alternator would self-energize and I made it home. Next morning I DID notice the alternator light on my car would NOT come on with the engine off and ignition on...always a good check of the system.

So the next morning I stripped another 1/4" from the old wire and reterminated it to the female clip and soldered the thing too. Clipped it back on and the alt light NOW lit with the engine øff and ignition on and the car has been running fine since.
