Didn't want to battle traffic to go get a timing light tonight (DC traffic is terrible), so I decided to go to radio shack, which is close to me. I got a little led to hook up the knock sensor led.
Working in the dark in an alleyway with a extension cord lightbulb thing I managed to move the pin from 20 to 19 in the harness, and ran a wire up the back of the harness to it.
I couldn't find a way through the firewall immediately, so I decided to see what kind of voltage the knock sensor was sending with my multimeter.
At idle, it was intermittently jumping up to the 12-13 volt area, sometimes lower. Sometimes it was going right back down, sometimes holding there for a second, sometimes ten seconds. Yikes!
So I guess my sensor's bad. Knock at idle? Didn't think that was possible (lol). I might check the resistance on the K pot and make sure it's stock too before I just swap in a new sensor. Has anyone had this happen before?
I will have to check the timing too though, because otherwise it will nag at the back of my mind until I do it.
BTW, what is the route that wires/vacuum stuff takes to get from the engine bay to behind the dash and behind the instrument panel - where is the hole in the firewall?
