I just cut a little template for each tab I had to replace from paper, then transferred it to the aluminum. I cut it on a scroll saw then cleaned up with a bench grinder. The aluminum I used was about 1/16" thick. It's just what I had laying around. You could probably do the same thing with plastic instead of aluminum. Swipe some plastic desk accessories from the office and cut them up, use thick Tupperware, I don't think it really matters. You could probably even get by with aluminum flashing. That would be at least as strong as the old tabs. And, you can cut that with shears.
I drilled the hole for the rivet in the new tab I created first, then I held in in place over the old tab and drilled through that. I rivetted it in with just a basic hardware store rivet gun. Then I drilled the hole for the long screw to pass through. I'm sure you could epoxy them on instead. Rivets were just quicker and cleaner for me.
