Ok...
Proud owner of a 1986 SPG that's having some cold-start issues. Gotta give it serious gas for a minute or so until the car warms up. Suspecting the AMM, I purchased a used AMM on eBay that was "guaranteed to be in perfect working condition." I excitedly put it in when it arrived, only to have the car choke out and die again.
I unplug the AMM and try again, and the car starts fine, though running a little rough.
So naturally it's easy to assume that it's a bum AMM, but the fact that the auction broker swears that it was working fine when the donor car was parted out makes me suspect something else.
Just so happens that I have a coworker who drag races Buick Grand Nationals in his spare time, and apparently goes through a lot of AMMs. He remarked that it was odd to him that the Saab AMM has six pins on the connector (the Buicks have three) and pontificated that they may indicate some sort of handoff to a cold crank sensor or something. Is that the case and, if so, could unplugging the AMM interrupt its (faulty) function and allow the car to start normally, without the AMM itself being bad?
Not sure what the next step in my diagnosis should be. Don't want to shell out dough for a third AMM if it isn't the problem.
Help will be greatly appreciated!
