Paul, I do not have a convertible, but the first thing I'd do is unplug the connector where the defroster element plugs into the car's harness, look at the condition of the conductors, plug it together 6 times, treat with dielectric grease, and see if everything is alright there. You could also use an ohmmeter to check the window element for continuity (probably zero ohms or a low reading) through the element. Maybe even check for 12 volts available to that plug when defroster is selected to ON? Hope this helps!
