All the methods mentioned work OK on the right adhesive, but will just make a mess on the wrong one. Heat is usually a good bet, trick is too much and you'll ruin the surfaces, especially your trim. I have removed stickers and lettering off of boats with EZ OFF oven cleaner...its pretty strong, use gloves and work on a small area at a time. No magic wand here, especially WD40 and goo gone...
