If you smell sulphur, most likely the other evaporative emissions piece is to fault, your charcoal canister (also known as the Evaporative Loss Control Device). If the canister tests out okay (check the solenoid with a voltmeter when the engine is running and with an ohmmeter when it is not running) then you may just need to use a different blend of gasoline and some fuel injector cleaner.
A melted catalyst will usually rattle and restrict exhaust flow, giving you a loud hissing noise until the backpressure blows past a seal (exhaust manifold, seal, or other) or kills your turbo.
If you gently tap on the catalyst, you can hear if the element has dislodged inside.
Other rich-running causes are a failing oxygen sensor and a failed fuel pressure regulator, to name a few.
Sluggishness is typically caused by vacuum leaks, dirty air and fuel filters, clogged or obstructed fuel injectors, dragging brakes, or a dirty throttle valve area.
