I like to count the slots or holes where the teeth go. it's 16 from mark to mark. no more no less. something about a 16 valve engine maybe? You can also do a poor man's TDC dial indicator, take the valve cover off, plugs out, put clean screwdriver in plug number one and turn the engine like you are supposed to do after you installed everything including the chain tensions. you will see the screw driver rise and fall. when the index marks on the chain wheels are aligned the screw driver should be as tall (out of the plug hole) as it gets. as you slowly rotate for the second time around the screw driver should only go down. if it comes up a little bit more then you have in fact installed with a tooth, or more than one, off...
