Interesting and thoughtful response, thanks. In re: my accumulation of S models you are perhaps both right and wrong. The '88 was my first 900 and was purchased from a good friend. I have been amazed at the longevity and ease of repair. I briefly owned an '88 Turbo hatch, loved the greater hp delivered with boost, so much so that I could barely keep my foot off the accelerator. That brief experience leads me to assume that the PO of most turbos on the market would have driven similarly, thus likely decreasing the half-life of the drive train. I don't know of many who drive an NA model as hard (I certainly don't) and so have greater confidence that those models will last.
In fact, and contrary to what I've posted previously in this thread, I have come around somewhat to your way of thinking. Looking in the classifieds here and at present and past EBay auctions, I have come to the conclusion that "it's better the devil you know". Given that virtually any 900 I buy will come equipped with its own range of problems, it probably makes more sense to stick with (and fix) the problems that I have now rather than buy a whole new collection.
Thanks again for all the advise.
