86 900s 4-door dome light headache

I've seen several posts that have touched on this subject but none that really helped specifically. here we go: First of all, does anyone know how the interior dome light on the driver's side over the rear door is supposed to sit? switch to the right or to the left? also, how do the wires connect to the three contact points? i pulled it months ago while replacing the headliner and now i can't remember. it's driving me batty. i've tried several combinations, but end up blowing the fuse as the light flickers. here's the rest: the light behind the rear view mirror, the dome light, the ignition light, and the trunk light are all connected right? trunk light works fine, lights when it opens and shuts off when it closes. rear view mirror light doesn't work at all, even when the center console switch is on (thinking it's probably just the light fixture itself). and, when i had the other interior light connected before the headliner was removed and i forgot how to put it back on, that light stayed on all the time no matter where the switch on the fixture was set. any ideas? oh yeah, no ignition switch light. is the bulb under the center console? can it be replaced?
