Man, that stinks. I've had that unfortunate experience myself. After (only) thirteen years and (only) 190,252 miles, our family's teenage son (me) hit a tree sideways at around 45 miles an hour with our '85 900. I was fine- a case of Saab Stiffneck for a couple of days. The tree hit the area between the back of the left front wheel and the leading edge of the driver's door, pushing in about a foot, then stopping cold. Despite having damage up to the sweeping corner of the hood, the windshield didn't even break. These are seriously strong cars, especially considering the competition at the time. I believe I owe my life or at least my neck and spine to that car. (My sister is a physical therapist. She gets to try to teach yesterday's headlines how to walk or get around again.) It's a terrible way to part company with the car, but she did her job well. Allow me to quote Groundskeeper Willie: Ye'll be baack!
Go pick the instruments out as a memento. Again, 190,252 miles. I held a little ceremony at the same tree with the old cluster when my current 900 (the replacement for the '85, much much later now) passed the same mileage.
I always hate dealing with "Another One Bites The Dust," but these 900s have a way of being awesome all the way up to the bitter end.
WHY is it ALWAYS a Jeep?
