Like BB says, replacing guides requires that the t. chain cover comes off and that's a task that's pretty hard the first time you do it (engine in car).The main catch with that job is that you are working in a very confined space, partly from below, on something you are not totally familiar with. Rolling in a new chain is not too difficult. You can "break the old chain with a bicycle chain tool. Setting the pin in the new chain is a bit more difficult since it's really supposed to be swedged, but guys do it all the time. It just requires some creativity (I have the Saab tools). Getting the timing right frustrates people a lot. Patience is the key. You can of course replace the damper in the valve cover. If your car has high mileage and a worn chain and has never had new guides then it probably needs them. Maybe you should get an estimate from a good Saab indy before you commit to DIY. Good luck.
