Thanks Saana88.
Don't know how to pull codes on Motronic with the engine running.
Compression, leakdown are acceptible. The headgasket has about 25,000 miles on it but the car has been on Mercedes coolant since it was 5 years old.
The FPR was in spec last fall but I just checked it again, pressure is steady and varies with vacuum, no leaks. I agree thats straws, would only expect that to be a problem if it were leaking.
Checked the invoice from Jim (Sobstory) and it doesn't say what make the cap and rotor are but the rotor is copper and the cap looks like Bosch to me.
I agree with electronics as a suspect but I spent a day in November and got every ground sanded clean and dielectric greased. The ones behind the dash drove me crazy. The battery is just a few months old.
Oil is 10W30 Mobil One and I did gap the plugs Sunday.
I just went through the half dozen coils I have and none of them is for the SAAB so I will try tracking one down. I have only once seen this type of a coil go bad and it was defintely arc'd and burned at the nose.
I've seen sparks dance on the outside of wires many times before and consider them a maintanence item. The ones on this car are just three years old (I thought they were newer but found the invoice), are Bogicord (sp)and I ran the car in the dark where I could have seen spark. There was none. They are clean too.
I think I am going to pull the connecters at the relay set tomorrow and run some jewlers files through them and maybe do as much voltage drop testing as I can. Electrical makes sense to me too. Otherwise I will have to catch it not starting and see what it what. This intermittant stuff is a killer.
