SPG's are getting harder and harder to find, people are junking them when they find rust &dents, when it can be fixed/slowed with some effort.
I have an '86 SPG that when I purchased had a badly rusted driver side front fender, rust along the frame rail, and rusted/broken shock mounts (1 was broken, another on it's way). Instead of sending a rare car to a junk yard, I had a friend of mine (who works at a bodyshop &does bodywork by trade and has worked on many C900's in the past, repaired rotted a-arm mounts and restored antique cars) repair it in his garage at his home. Rust was cut out, new metal was welded in, new fender installed, the new metal was coated with POR-15, The '86 SPG was saved. The job wasn't cheap, but it was done well, Now the body should hold for quite some time, it's totally solid. The important thing is to make sure to cut the rust out and put in new metal, don't just cover it, because it will be back &spread.
If you junk your SPG, it's one more that bit the dust and one less in existance. Not many were made, either. Most cars of that vintage are going to have some rust, unless it was out west most of it's life. If you really like the car, want to take on a project and restore it, don't let rust scare you away, anyone who restores old cars generally has to deal with rust repair.
Floors and fenders can be replaced. Finding a person willing to help you may be a project, but there are plenty of guys out there who will. How about all the custom street rods that are around, that were originally found in the forrest with a tree growing through them? It took $$$ and hard work to bring them back, but it can be done.
Good luck
