AndyG,
Man it really just depends on two things; The condition of the rest of the car and how much you want to keep it going. It may make more sense to take your money and look for another C900 that's good for another 50-100K. The DIY angle is heavily used to keep old cars on the road and accounts for about 50% of the activity on this BB (and 50% of the activity in my life). If you're a fairly good mechanic you should look into that. Of course then you have 4 ways to go; Put in a used automatic and cross your fingers or cough up the $$ for a rebuilt automatic or do the 5 speed swap with either a used or rebuilt 5 speed. If you're thinking of DIY you should read about doing a tranny replacement first, that may help you make a decision (it's a lot of work). Whatever happens, Good luck.
