Hi Steve, yes the pad is just under the valve cover, but be prepared with another valve cover gasket set just in case. If you have been have minor oil leaks in the area this may help. the pad is on the valve cover itself. you should be able to put your finger on the valve cover at the front (you know, nearest the firewall where the belts are) of the engine where it's wider and feel the contact. if the engine is hot I really like those OVEGloves. they rock! as long as it's not steam you are really protected. If you do remove the cover the pad should be hard plastic like, it's done then. you will note that the new on has a more rubber quality to it. pay attention to the direction of the slots and guides to remove and reinstall. I usually use two screwdrivers, one to lever the end up and one to motivate it to move out of the carrier.
As to the tensioner, you can get to it by removeing the AC compressor and laying it over and out of the way, there is a large hole in the middle of the bracket so you don't really have to remove the bracket, just the compressor (two allens at the top, one 12 or 13 nut back off at the bottom - don't need to remove the bolt, bracket is slotted at the end, really!). There is a spec for the chain tensioner, it should be able to do it's job and still have an amount available. it's in the bentley.
Let us know how you fare...
