its the guide pin rubber boot your looking for, and yes they need to be replaced.
after a good amount of time the brake caliper will start to rattle on the guide pins (there is some sort of lube that on the guide pins)
to replace the lube i used regular c.v. joint grease, but the boot must be in-tacked before this is done.

after a good amount of time you will start to notice a little annoying rattle when the car is at idle, and then on the first 1-5mph the noise will increase. its an annoying little rattle, sounds like there is a piece of lose exhaust muffler right in front of the passenger side fire wall,
it had me looking at the heat shield under the car, loose radiator, the rattle was driving me insane, after a pain staking search of saabnets posts for about 2 and a half hours i found one post that talked about these guide pins, in which the writer of the post referred to the tor-en guide pin boot.
after looking at mine i found the passenger side guide pin boots where indeed tore, and at the time i just wanted to find out if this was my rattle, so with tor-en guide pin boots i disassembled the brake drowned the guide pin in c.v. joint grease and reinstalled

and to my great surprise that rattle i was chasing for over 2 years was gone. the noise came back with in 3 weeks being i still needed guide pin boots, well i located them at a pick and pull.
seems the previous owner of the car had put new guide pin boots on the car just before they junked it, i know someone sells them new just from the find on this car in the graveyard, start with a search of saabnet and all its sponsors,
or salvage the boots at a pick and pull.... woh wait a sec.
i think i have two but they are in bad shape, their not tore but they would need to be replaced i would think within 2 years
if you want them ill put them in a envelope and send them your way.

wait let me find them first .........................
