Driving home last night, stuck in 5-mph traffic (ugh), idle soared to 2K rpms, would dip down to 1K, then back up to 2K. 10 minutes of this, and then dash lights came on and car stalled. Could not get it started again. People behind me beeping as if I was enjoying being stuck there in the left lane of the busiest interstate in New England (I-95 in CT). Pushed the car to the left shoulder and kept trying to start it. It finally did after 5 minutes. Driving it then felt uneasy. As I gave it more gas, it felt like the car would buck slightly, and I was nervous every time I had to push the clutch in, making the idle drop down.

Everything in car has been maintained within the last year or so. This includes, but not limited to, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, timing, vacuum lines, plastic vacuum fittings with rubber gaskets, FPR, etc.

I've owned this car for 4 years, and it has always had a funky idle (racing, then surging, then racing again). It doesn't happen all the time, but it does a lot. I tried cleaning the AIC and NTC, and it didn't help. I ran the resistance tests on both of those items, and they passed. ECU has been swapped and it still does it.

This problem does not happen when cold, only warm. From what I've read, the dying AMM presents itself with a cold engine and screwy idle. My situation is the opposite, though did result in stalling and difficult re-starting.

O2 sensor has never been touched. CEL came on during my commuting nightmare, but haven't checked it.
