Is the outside of your radiator covered with greenish-white deposits of crud? If so, your radiator is leaking.
Is coolant vomiting out of the expansion tank every fourth time (on average) you turn off the engine? If so, your head gasket is toast.
Does the coolant level repeatedly drop below the minimum mark? If not, you're overtopping the expansion tank. Both of my 900s tend to consume coolant until the level drops to midway on the "MIN" letters, then it'll sit there for months on end. As long as the level doesn't go beyond this point, I'd say you've found the equilibrium level for your car.
Are there green goopy drools down the belt-side of your engine, you know, below the water pump? Stick your finger in there (engine OFF for the pete of sake!) and wipe off the bottom of the water pump. Moisture? Gunk? If so, your water pump is starting to go. There's a weep hole under the pulley that serves you notice when the bearings on your water pump are starting to wave a white flag.
Do you smell funny stuff (like coolant vapor) when you turn on the heat? If so, your heater core is leaking coolant mist inside the car. This makes defrosting the windows increasingly difficult.
Is there a puddle of goo on the driver's floor pan around where your right foot sits? If so, your heater valve has started its pre-failure incontinence.
Aside from that, make sure the system is bled properly and all your hose connections are tight.
