I couldn't drive a car that got less than 25 city/30 hwy. Hell, my buddies' new F-250 turbo diesel gets almost 24mpg & it's quick too! My wifes friend has a 98' GMC 1500 extended cab 4x4 w/a 305 that gets at least 17mpg w/the AC on.
There's something seriously wrong with a compact car that weighs less than 3500 lbs getting less than 21 city/28 hwy. I know your top gear is a screamer, but there are repeatedly c900 autos in the classifieds that the sellers claim get 30 hwy mpg. What kind of rpms are you turning on the freeway?

There is a magazine called 'Grassroots Motorsports' (grassrootsmotorsports.com) that had a write up in their December 2005 issue about track worthy cars that got great fuel economy - the highlight was a VW 'new' Beetle TDI w/modest tweaks yielding 123hp & 412 ft lbs torque (!) w/only 16 psi of boost from the stock turbo! The car still gets 40+ mpg city...damn!
As additional incentive to get the back issue - there is also an interesting (if inaccurate) five page write up on the c900 turbo in the same issue...& no - you can't have mine.
