In searching this forum, I have found many threads where people were trying to fix the "morning stumble" that many of our cars have. What I am referring to by this is when you start from cold in the morning and the car hesitates for the first few minutes - you need to open the throttle up more than normal to get it going, and shifting is off because the car idles down differently than normal. To "get around" the problem I would just ride the clutch a little in first gear to get 'er going.
I think most people have gone down the ignition route on this one, and I know from reading threads that this has been unsuccessful for a lot of people. Personally, I had just accepted it as part of the c900 experience :)
But, recently, in a seemingly unrelated issue, my car was idling down way too slowly in between gears, sometimes sticking at higher rpm for an annoying amount of time...which of course made the shifting "less than smooth." Obviously this was the AIC, which I replaced with a junkyard unit the other day (which thankfully is in good working condition). Interestingly enough, though, with the old AIC the car would hold a perfecly steady idle at standstill.
Anywho, the replacement helped several things - firstly, the idling was dead smooth in between gears (the trans feels like butter now!). Secondly, do you know how on many c900s when you let off the gas to decellerate in gear and the car rocks back and forth? Well, that is still slightly there now, but it is *significantly* smoother with the fresh AIC. Lastly, and the point of this thread, the "morning stumble" has all but disappeared. I am one happy camper!
Of course, every car is different, so this might not cause it in all cases, but it makes sense and it worked for me. Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone else who gave up on finding the solution to this problem.
Cheers,
Andrew
