I would agree that the aftermarket valves aren't the same quality as the Saab parts. Dunno about junk, but I certainly wouldn't expect the 10+ years from them that we get from the genuine part.
When I install, I use spray-on sealant (Permatex) along the entire top surface of the new valve - it keeps the o-rings in place, and gives a good fail-safe in case an o-ring fails without introducing extra "stuff" on the mating surface that might cause a bad fitment. You have to be quick doing it this way, as that spray on stuff gets tacky very quickly and it becomes hard to position the new valve.
I'd say if yours is leaking after a week, something else went wrong. Maybe an o-ring shifted, or perhaps there was corrosion on the car-side fitting. I usually use some light-grit sandpaper and a small block to make sure that surface is smooth.
As for the front oil spray, sounds like it may be the o-ring on the distributor. Could be the internal seal, too, and perhaps oil is getting into your distributor body, and either screwing up the hall sensor or the cap/rotor contact and causing an ignition problem, generating that CEL.
