First the good news: you can change the distributor o-ring with simple hand tools (12 mm wrench?) in next to no time. Give the inside of the distributor a good cleaning while you're in there and check for more leaks. Like Justin said, you can go a long way and eliminate the easy stuff first and then try pulling codes for your CEL. What year and model is your 900?
Now the not so good news: I got nine months out of my aftermarket heater valve with proper installation. It was leaking after four months. Bite the bullet on that one because the OEM ones typically last ten to fifteen years and give you better fine control over the heater. (The aftermarket valve was difficult to modulate and had lots of slop in the mechanism.) You may want to double check your bolts and the rings, but you will still want to get that out of there before it comes apart.
