I didn't have any trouble refitting the fuel line to one of the elbows on top of the tank. What I did was this:
The basic idea is to make a tool to hold the trimmed plastic fuel line tight while you hammer in the barbed banjo fitting. I drilled a hole about the size of the fuel line in a block of wood, then cut the block of wood in half longitudinally, with the cut passing through the hole. I cut a short length of split fuel line and then slipped that over the fuel line in the car to prevent damaging it with the tool during clamping. Next I clamped the wood tool around the fuel line - this way you can hold in nice and tight while you hammer your banjo fitting back on. It helps to lube up the barbs on the banjo with spit or something more technical if you like. I did this all on a bench but it would be possible under the car with more cursing.
Good luck, Ken
