1. The gauges should work just fine. Ideally, you'll pull off the plastic printed circuit from the '82, mount it on the gauges from the '84, put it back on the cluster, and stick it in the car. I have gauges from an '87 in my 1980... I was sick and tired of the dumb 8,000rpm tach and 85mph speedo (moreso the latter...).
2. Don't let it go too long. You do NOT want your crank pulley separating and spinning off. Might fall out under the car, might break something. And it might end up damaged to the point repair isn't possible. I'd call around to some junkyards (Elite Foreign, Goldwing, Andrews, Saab Depot, Rancho Saab Dismantlers) and see if you can buy one used, send it out for a rebuild, and have it ready to install. I can't imagine someone charging much money for a used 25 year old crank pulley... :) I wonder if the later 8v cars all used the same B201 pulley?
