the cheery-bomb is doing just that (being a bomb)
when boosting hard and having the wastegate open prematurely sends all the boost pressure along with the excess unburnt fuel out the tail pipe.
the cheery bomb my be acting as the igniter,
with one of them phat or (fat) mufflers im sure the car behind you can see the explosion in your cheery bomb at night, probably looks like the 4th of July.
seeing you use to boost to mid red the pic. showes what may have happened.

as you can see the crack from turbo exhaust inlet to wastegate.
it my let you boost to mid yellow but would never let you get to mid red.
just because of the minimal boost escaping.
(i been hearing this crack in this location is normal for all turbo units)
and going off of that info, it more than likely in your turbo.

but never fear.. Swedish dynamics i see are ahead of the curve.

they have the exhaust side of the turbo unit for sale, and whats better its made out of nikel.
which is supposed to be uncrackable.
it runs for 200 something its at their web site. check it out and read what they got to say about it.

more digging on their web site will reveal a turbo unit thats equipped with this uncrackable nickel exhaust side. i think it runs 500,
but before any decisions are made, you will notice for 300 buxs more, they sell the top of the line turbo unit packing so much power im sure if installed on a saab 900 the drivers eye balls would be liquefied within their skull.
