Plugs, plugs, plugs, gap Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Loss of Power under Boost?, Dave P, Thu, 5 Jul 2007 10:07:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Engine miss at boost is almost always related to ignition, spark plug gap in particular. The higher the boost, the harder it is for the spark to jump. If the gap is too big, the spark won't jump at higher boost, and the engine misses.
IF the spark plug wires are poor, this can also cause miss under boost, for the same reason. The voltage goes a bit higher with boost, and if the plug wires are shot, you'll get arcing to some other bit of metal. Same with worn and or dirty rotor and cap.
So check the plugs for proper gap. Replace wires if they're over 3 years old or looking worn.
