It is possible to damage the slave cylinder by letting the release bearing go too long but mine was fine and I went a really long time on a squealing bearing. Some people like to replace the slave anyways when they do the clutch. I thought I'd just replace the bearing but my disc looked pretty thin (close to the rivets) so I did the disc, p-plate, release bearing, and pilot bearing. Bottom line I think you will be okay to wait on it.
Good luck, Ken
