so if the engine were pulled, would the timing cover be installed with the cyl. head still on? personally to me - this car cost 500$ - i really don't know how willing i am to pull the motor at this point. i will admit i should have done that in the first place and will in the future in this situation...
how would the timing cover cracking damage the gearbox? by cracking it? i appreciate and respect your advice, i am just saying that personally i think the job of pulling the engine is a bit out of my scope and timeframe at this point. i would be happy if the timing cover went on and was slightly leaky. otherwise, if it does not work, as i have no place to store the car, let alone a bench to disassemble an engine, i suppose it goes as a parts car. i really want to fix this issue as i love this car - its in great shape for 500$.
by the way - what is the deal with the oil pump gears not pumping with the marks facing down? the gears seem symmetrical to me......
