This is the same stuff that the 3 door turbo and 4 door spoilers are made out of by the way. I've ripped a couple apart to try and figure out exactly what it's made of.
It's an open-cell type of rubber core with a more solid "skin" on it of denser rubber... It's flexible. Lots of people paint them but even with flexible paint, I think you're doing something that in the long run, will look far worse.
I restored one pretty darn well on an SPG once. Took some really fine grit sandpaper (600 or so if I recall correctly), sanded it... which seemed to remove the surface "dead" rubber. That is if rubber can die. Once the surface was really smooth, I used permanent black UV safe dye. Like thosee little leather dye bottles. Applied it with the sponge on the top of the applicator bottle. This stuff is at any shoe / leather store -- but try to get one that says "waterproof", permanent, etc... It'll go on smoothly and make the thing really black. Then... use on a weekly basis (important) 303 Aerospace Protectant to treat the material. This works great and it'll look great. Color won't run down your car and spoiler won't deteriorate any more.
PS -- 303 Aerospace protectant is amazing stuff. You will not be disappointed in this product. It's about 15-20 bucks for a spray bottle, and I have to order it online as I can't find it locally. It's basically what guys with $150,000 or $200,000 classic cars use to treat their rubber seals, vinyl. Contains no silicone. Stays on even in the rain. And has SPF 40 or so within.
