I think you do not need to do what you're doing -
You need to unbolt the fuel feed from the forward end of the rail, and pull off the return line from the fuel pressure regulator. That's all there is. Then unbolt the intake manifold and lift it off complete with the fuel rail. My advice is do not remove the fuel rail from the manifold unless you absolutely need to - it's very easy to bend, then you're screwed.
When putting everything back together, go buy some fuel line from the auto parts store and replace the rubber line that goes from the fuel pressure regulator return line to the barb fitting on the plastic line on the driver's side shock tower. It's 3' or so, and after 21 years the old line will be brittle. Getting new rubber on there will ensure you don't have leaks, and make the reassembly job easier.
