congratulations! I know you felt good on this one! and thanks for sharing, you know it builds the knowledge base.
on the smog front, I got hooked up with a local guy that is pretty knowledgable and nice too. I told him I had put a new after market cat on the car as a last hope as the nox was high and the CO close to the limit. He grabbed his book arout the cars/cats/ or something and read it and proclaimed, yes the cat for the 900's is a tri metal cat and takes care of all of the issues I was having. and you know... it passed just fine. at 368,000 miles with one head gasket aobut eight years ago and a set of exhaust valves (after I had hydro locked it and got it to start anyway... woo hoo!). Nice to work with someone that took the time to RTFM, explain what was what, and be nice about it. I had been taking my fleet to a test only sweat shop close to my house for 12 years. you know I have eight cars, and they all get yearly certs (Cal morons - the 9000 *always* passes with ease). I stopped using them when a car failed, twice, and I got the gorightdownthestreat and istheaddressonyourchecklocal. umm can you read english... ok maybe not, but geeze I've been here.... doing the math over a hunderd flipping times!. anyway had to take the failing car to a full test and he hooked it up and it passed, no changes or anything. paid my $75, asked for a reccomendation for a test only (since on the California merry go round you have to do this) and he pointed me to a guy two blocks away. when there, they didn't like the red water hose I was using on the crankcase breather so had to go next door to *them* and spend $20 more dollars... and then I had to show the guy where the timing mark was so he could check the timimg. I just bit my lip and tried to smile... it passed again (imagine my surprise! passed two out of three in two hours) paid him *his* money and left. It felt like I had been to three blind proctologists in a row and yet had to tell them where my ass was...
So I now go to my new source, drive 30 miles one way, but hey the guy does speak english too...
