it sounds like one of the cams may have slipped a tooth or you have a bad valve.
What's the timing set at?
The 4K RPM drivability issue may be that you have a loose hose clamp or cracked boot on one of the ducts to or from the intercooler. Check that first.
Of course, none of that rules out a bad AMM. Do you know somebody with a known good AMM from a 900S up to '87 or 900T up to '88 who would be willing to let you swap it in for a few hours? (The number on the stamped into the top of MUST end with 005) That would give you an idea if yours is bad.
The electrical issue may be a dodgy ignition switch or a marginal ground.
