Well, I'm somewhat embarrassed to say, it was a vacuum leak. After replacing a few parts, and replacing a few vacuum lines, I found the problem was the rubber check valve on the top of the charcoal canister. The rubber diaphram had blown out. I removed the canister and was able to reseat the diaphram. The idle dropped 500 rpms! It's still idling a bit high at 1000, but I plan on going over every vacuum connection with a fine tooth comb and I bet I'll be able to shave off a few more rpms on the idle. On the plus side of not finding the leak right away, I did a bunch of good preventive maintenaince--new engine temp sensor, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the AIC, new fuel regulator, etc. Thanks for all your advice.
