'91 900T 5-spd..
I am hearing a noise that I find difficult to explain, hence the 'tutorial' request.
With motor running, I can depress clutch as often as liked and get no noise of any kind. Put transmission in 1st and I get an intermittent squeal which sometimes comes and goes depending on how far pedal is depressed.
I can't get my head around what is different as to moving parts that changes when transmission is in gear. If the clutch is disengaged what moves in the transmission? How is that different if transmission is not in gear?
This is only apparent when clutch is depressed (though maybe I just can't hear it when actually moving) and invariably never happens while transmission is not in gear. The clutch, while not brand new, has less than 20K on it. (the first lasted well over 100K and was only replaced because the slave cylinder failed)
It happens in 1st and reverse, for sure, but I can't be sure it doesn't happen in any gear. Also, I must have the clutch pedal at least partially depressed i.e. while starting to move from dead stop when one sort of 'slips' the clutch to ease off from stop. Once clutch is completely engaged the noise stops.
My enlightenment eagerly awaited!!
