Hi all,
Now as my SAAB (1990 Turbo 16 Aero /Euro/ with AT) is road legal, I started to slowly deal with all its numerous problems.
Here is the most important and noticeable one:
I am enjoying the basic boost trouble from day one. I methodically trace down problems - replaced vac lines in the engine bay, repalced shot bypass - it did not get me on boost but restored even idling.
Next was APC solenoid - it clicked when you start the engine, then I disconnected hoses, connected 12VDC from battery - blows through perfectly. Disconnected power - does not blow. So it works (checked). Now I tried to blow it with ignition on - it clicks and then - nothing, ports are blocked. So I hooked up multimeter and here are my findings.
If you measure just wires, (solenoid unplugged), I get steady 8 VDC reading with ignition on.
The very moment you try to add some resistance (ignition still on) - solenoid or even the test bulb - power drops to 0.
Test 2 - solenoid is plugged and I take readings from its connections. The moment I twist ignition into ON voltage jumps up to 3-4 VDC (solenoid clicks) and then drops to 0.
Interestingly, I also tested the knock sensor at the APC block connection points and got nothing. Tapping on knock sensor bolt with ignition on and APC solenoid connected does nothing as well.
What can cause such voltage drop? Is it sort of normal?
To Wayne: I did not call Ray as my car was not fully legal. I tried today (Saturday 11th) but he did not respond, so I will retry on Monday. Or APC is something you work with? You insight will be most welcome and hugely appreciated.
Thank you all in advance for your opinion(s).
