I found the exhaust manifold to turbo gasket leaking (exhaust manifold to turbo held on by 4 bolts).

First I removed the flange (connects to the exhaust down pipe). Then, I removed the outer half of the turbo housing (held on by 5 13mm nuts). Lots of PB blaster and luck, but none snapped.

On the exhaust manifold, I sprayed a lot of PB blaster on the nut and bolt heads. All four were loose (I could turn the head with a socket wrench), but were stuck and I couldn't back the nuts off. I got first one off with a lot of muscle. The second two required heating with a propane torch. After heating, they came right off. Of the two, one was no problem to heat because it is out in the open. The other (top inboard bolt) required more careful heating because it is closer to the engine and what appears to be more flammable parts or easily damage components.

Both bolts came loose easily after heating for only a minute or two.

The third bolt (13mm bolt and nut) came loose fairly easy.

For sizes, other than the 13mm bolt and nut, three of the nuts were 17mm, while only two of the bolt heads were 17mm and 1 was a 16mm bolt head. Not sure if this was factory or the result of a previous owner mixing and matching. I cleaned and applied liberal coating of anti-seize.

I could not find a gasket or reference to one for the turbo to flange. I called the local Saab dealer and they said there wasn't one. The flange is held on by 3 13mm nuts.

I'm sure all the site sponsors are great, but just wanted to say I got my system from eEuroParts. Prices were good and delivery was on time. I live in NE, so if it lasts a couple years (it's not allowed out in the winter) great.

One thing, replacing the exhaust made me realize why I hate doing exhaust work without a lift.

All told, I think I spent a little less than $350 for the parts, but figured it would cost at least $500-$600 to have it done.

Plus, I just like working on my own cars!

Good luck
