Paul is right, you should check the final drive oil level. I've replaced many of these because the final drive leaked itself dry and burned up. Just to clarify; there are 3 drain plugs on the bottom of your T37 transaxle which drain 3 different fluids; 1)large slotted screw in the front pan, drains the ATF. 2)A hex head bolt, usually 13 mm hex (sometimes larger) on the bottom left side which drains the engine oil. The word "ENGINE" is cast into the case near that plug. 3) Large round bolt with a square or allan socket, bottom midline back between the axles. Drains the final drive (differential) which runs in gear oil (or motor oil, Saab recommends either). The transaxle itself only needs ATF for the transmission part and gear (or motor) oil for the differential part. That drain plug marked "ENGINE" that's left of center drains the engine oil sump which is cast as part of the transaxle case. You fill the ATF through the transmission dipstick, the engine oil through the engine dipstick and the final drive through a plug on the side of the transaxle case just in front of the right axle. The differential oil should be filled up to that plug hole. If yours is low remember this: gear oil is thick and smells like sulfur, so if that's what's in there then top it off with that. If you're unsure then drain it well and fill it with gear oil. Sorry to be so elaborate but people have ruined C900 engines and transmissions by confusing this. If you want to change you tranny filter be aware that they are not generally available in local parts stores. You may have to order that in advance from a Saab parts place (try site sponsors).
