Hi,
I thought I'd talk about my latest metal lover for the intrest of any Saab 900c gear heads around here.
I heard there was a 1984 Saab 900T 2 door available for sale.
A gent had called my shop offering the car to the shop owner where I work.
He was not interested in the car but gave me the information as he knows I have a big thing for classic Saab 900 cars.
The car was said to be at a car repair shop about 5 miles beyond the Maine state line,10 miles from the shop I work at in east central New Hampshire,USA.
The car was said to have failed the yearly State inspection done at the shop where it was parked.
I was told the car failed inspection because of a bad ball joint and rust through at a rocker panel.
I was handed a print out of repair receipts over the last few years.
I took a ride to Country Tractor repair shop to look at the car, after work.
Saabs and I go back 40 years, off and on.
The receipt print out totaled around $5,000 over last few years.
I got out to see the car.
She looked real poor.
And the front of the car had accident damage.
The front bumper on the left where it curles around the fender was twisted by some violent incident and all torn open.
Grill and headlamp surrounds busted up.
Inside the car looked like a rolling trash can.
The car had tan leather all crapped up and the driver's seat had been replaced with a very worn purple cloth seat that the up and down adjustment parts had been removed.
Car looked like lot of rust underneath.
I drove off mumbling about the fact I was sure the fellow would have to pay me to take that car away.
The car was a black Saab 900 Turbo combi coupe with around 157,000 miles on the clock.
A real clever person in the past had installed a gold colored double pin stripe down each side of the car.
The stripe was not put on very straight and made the car look junky,to me anyway.
Then I started to think how I might sell the new front calipers for good money.
This car has the early style caliper which are rather expensive to buy.
So,the next day I called the owner.
I offered him $50.
He had to have $100 for the car as he belived the crusher's would give him that much.
I passed on the car.
I was ill.
2 hours later I called the car's owner again and said I'd give him the $100.
He said to give the money to the owner of Country Tractor Repair to cover the $100 bill outstanding on the car.
I got a ride out to the car.
Payed the bill.
Got a jump to start the car as the battery was dead.
The engine ran quitely but poorly.
I drove the car the 10 miles to the shop where I work.
No turbo boost appearent.
Loud rear suspension noise on ant bumps.
The car was real rough but the car would probably a good parts car.
By now I'm really sick and obsessed.
Lots more to tell next time so check back.
This car is really starting to work on me,now.
