Hey Josh -
I'm assuming this is my former SPG! Hope you and the car are doing well. I miss it. Your symptoms are unfamiliar to me and it's really strange that the buttons aren't responding and even more odd that the antenna is going up before the head unit is attached. You can pull the radio with the tools (and some struggling) in the trunk, but the antenna being energized prior to the radio on seems to indicate a draw from it or the wiring. The whole radio harness is routed from the top DIN installation behind the center console and can best be accessed by pulling the console. Check the wiring at the antenna by pulling the carpet and fishing it out. Maybe the motor or the wiring between the radio and it (but I have no idea how to trace this).
I've never done the starter on the car, so it is a suspect, but I would think battery first. The battery, being oversize, does put it in closer proximity to the heat from the turbo elbow. It's well over 3 years old I think (the 3 year old batt on my "new" 9-5 just died - very inconveniently in the woods up north!) and there's a good chance it's tired.
Another guy on the board (Randy Thatcher) had the same head unit. I recall some posts by him a few years ago when he was having some problems, but I don't recall what they were.
Maybe try pulling the radio and disconnecting the harness in the back (real easy to do - directional plugs) and charge the battery and see if symptoms return.
Let me know if I can help at all.
Bryan
