Can this one be fixed? Posted by dave24 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Finished the clutch install on Sunday, with several assists from this forum. But a stupid blunder on one of the last operations created a problem, so I am back asking for advice.
I was reinstalling the fan, and didn't realize it was slightly misaligned, and one of the top mounting screw punctured the radiator. I knew it immediately as the sound of pressure being released was quickly evident. Took it for a spin hoping that it might be ok - but knowing that it wouldn't be. The good news is that the clutch is perfect - feels like a new car. The bad news is the antifreeze dripping from the radiator.
So before I order the new radiator, I thought I might try to repair. One thought was some sort of stop-leak (don't know what type though). The second thought was to install a sheet metal screw, covered with some of my left-over 508 thread sealer, in the new hole in the radiator.
Am I kidding myself that this can be repaired? Has anyone had any success with a repair of this sort? The radiator is less than 2 years old, and otherwise in perfect condition.
