The first thing I would do is try swapping your ECU with one from an '87 or '88 900T - one of the big improvements over time was cold start running. That said, chances are the AMM you pulled from the junkyard is every bit as wrecked as the one you pulled out of the car. When it comes to these AMMs, I think you're almost always better off buying a new one. Even the rebuilts aren't great - still better than an unknown used one I'd reckon, but not great.
Other than that, you just gotta be sure everything is in good shape. Be sure you've got no vacuum leaks, the NTC sensor is showing proper resistance, your fuel system is in good shape (especially injectors - clogged injectors won't atomize the fuel properly, and that's even more of a problem when the engine is cold), and the AIC is clean and working well.
