'84 900T exhaust manifold question

I gave a co-worker an exhaust manifold off a '86> 900T and they are telling me on their '84 900T the O2 sensor bung is in the exhaust manifold? Is that true? Could they use the later exhaust manifold and relocate the O2 sensor into the elbow like on a '86>? Or should they look for an '84 900T manifold? Their current one has a crack in it.
Thanks.
Cliff
