Re: Fried ECU--where is it? Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Fried ECU--where is it?, CBS ![]() |
The ECU is mounted to the side of the car in the passenger footwell. Big silver box that says BOSCH JETRONIC on it... You probably have to dismount it from the car to remove the plug, but with the knee bolster out it's pretty easy to do. Be SURE the battery is disconnected when swapping ECUs - they can be fried pretty easily if they're powered up when disconnected and it's simply not worth the risk.
The ICU is the ignition control unit - a little silver box in the engine compartment near the APC box and the driver's side corner light.
I've made some progress on my issue - I took it on a 200 mile roadtrip through sierras today and it performed really well on the way up (third day in a row of good driving) and then sucked all the way home. I think Hans's suggestion of screwy Hall Sensor wiring might be it... I fidgeted with that today during a stop on the way back, and it was improved the rest of the way home. I'll see how it does tomorrow... On the upside, I'm fairly convinced the issue is electrical and not some fault with my freshly rebuilt engine. That's good, 'cause if I decide to part this car out at least I'll be able to salvage by main investment.
