Another test for inner driver on an automatic is that you get a lot of vibration when stopped in drive with your foot on the brake. If you shif t to neutral at stop, vibration goes away. Usually the inner driver over the exhaust pipe (passenger side)
I wrapped the exhaust pipe under the inner driver with ceramic insulating tape. You could also use "header wrap" tape, and this will shield the inner driver from excessive heat, and keep the grease from cooking inside.
Auto trans life is a crap shoot, many times is shot by 200K. My last auto lasted to 173K, then was transformed to 5 speed. Changing to 5 speed is cheaper ( and better) than putting in a rebuilt automatic.
