I can only add (and I'm sure you already know this) that with these cars, electric issues at one location can effect the operation of some other component seemingly unrelated. Like how a bad tail-light ground effects dash operations. A lot of the core circuitry is routed through that ignition cluster, so it's not inconceivable that a problem there would somehow effect idle/acceleration. I can't tell you how many mystery issues with my old car were solved by resoldering component/ground wiring connectors and cleaning connection tabs and sockets.
Please explain the mysteries of the device you built. Details please. That could come in handy for a number of us. I already have a drivers door lock that opens with just about any key. That's my failsafe in the event I lose my keys or lock them inside. I have a spare in the glove box, and only need to open the drivers door. "Excuse me Sir, may I borrow your key to open my car door? Thank you."
