My '84 900 blew a tire and skidded off the road. I removed pieces of my AT front cover by scraping it along the road and some rocks. I lost lots of AT fluid and bent up some inside plumbing and the filter. After I put everything back together, the transmission was slipping in all gears. You guys told me to look for an air leak inside the transmission. I found it! The suction pipe had been bent and pushed up by the blow to the AT filter. When I put the new filter on the rubber grommet that is supposed to seal the filter to the pipe was pushed inside the filter. This left lots of room to suck in air. After several attempts to put the pipe and grommet and filter back together as designed, I ended up with the grommet around the pipe and outside the filter, pushed tightly against the filter. The car is back together and the transmission is no longer slipping.
Thank you for your advice. JT Andrews
