That's not fair, You threw us for a loop there by saying that the A/C compressor was engaging but not the fan.
It still doesn't answer why the cooling fan is not turning on when the engine temp reach high enough for the fan switch to trigger, or does it work normally that way? (Since we can't trust you now, we have to double ask each question) ;o)
And if the left fan is coming on with push on A/C button but the right one and comp is not, that's usually the anti freeze switch messing with the circuit.
If neither of the fans would come on with A/C button, it would most likely be the A/C low pressure switch on rec/dryer that cut out the system due to low on freon.
As long as you know about the time relay problem, I guess you are safe to use it, but they will fail at some point so it would probably be a good idea to install a regular multi use relay.
